Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a medical technique where micro-injections just beneath the surface of the skin (mesoderm) are performed to deliver specific medications to a targeted problem site.

For cosmetic and medical uses mesotherapy is a popular and effective treatment for skin rejuvenation and cellulite.

Cellulite is a medical condition and affects 95% of females regardless of age and weight.

Cellulite is deposits of fat that have been misshapen and squeezed out of the fat chambers (storage for fat cells) to just below the surface layer of the skin. This gives rise to the classical dimpled or ‘orange peel’ appearance of the skin.

Causes of cellulite:

  • Genetics
  • Hormonal
  • Stress
  • Lifestyle

Cellulite can be seen anywhere on the body. The hips, buttocks, legs and abdomen are usual sites.

Cellulite development has certain stages and it will progress as the blood supply and lymph drainage becomes more impaired. This results in fluid retention and a lack of nutrients and toxins being eliminated from that area. If there is no improvement in the condition then eventually permanent damage will result overtime.

The aim of treatment is to halt the progression of the medical condition and to improve appearance of the skin and provide symptom relief.

What can Mesotherapy do?

  • Deliver minute amounts of homeopathic and/or medical drugs to the specific site that is affected.
  • The drugs have a local action and since they are targeted to the site of tissue damage, just under the surface of the skin the action of the drugs last longer.
  • Advantage of being able to use minimal amount of drugs and less absorption systemically results in less possible side-effects.

Aim of the drugs used:

  • To improve blood flow to the affected area
  • Strengthen the weakened blood vessels
  • Improve lymphatic drainage
  • Counteract the stiffness in the walls of the fat chambers

Before any treatments you will need to have a thorough assessment, detailed medical history and accurate diagnosis made by a Qualified Medical Practitioner. Who will then in discussion with you initiate the appropriate course of treatment.

Mesotherapy Treatments

At first it is usual to have a course of ten treatments given at weekly intervals. Following this you may need another course of treatment to maintain the results and you will probably require one treatment every few months.

Micro-injections are relatively painless, no need for any preparation beforehand and after treatment you may return to normal activities. Each treatment session will take approximately 20-30 minutes.

Minimal side-effects are expected if any. You may experience slight bruising or swelling afterwards which would resolve spontaneously within the first few days without any treatment.

Benefits are usually experienced after the first few sessions particularly improvement in symptom relief and health of the legs. Long term benefits will be aided by focusing on treating cellulite in a holistic way.

Mesotherapy combined with lifestyle changes, dietary advice, exercise and techniques such as manual lymph drainage can be a very effective combination of tackling this chronic medical condition.
